attorney – partner

In 2022, Denise Thomas joined forces with Amber Macias-Mayo to found Macias-Mayo & Thomas Law PC.

Thomas’s extensive state and federal litigation experience has gained her a breadth of experience in multiple areas of law involving civil and criminal litigation, contract formation and disputes, insurance coverage issues, property and construction law matters, tax issues and appeals. This broad experience gives her a unique perspective in her current law practice, which focuses on helping families navigate some of the most important and challenging legal issues in their lives. The backbone of her work consists of helping clients plan for marriage, adoption, divorce, child custody and support, and wills and trusts.

Thomas has advanced training and experience working as a mediator and settlement facilitator.  She regularly serves as a neutral mediator, helping couples resolve their issues without the stress and expense of court.  She is also a member of the New Mexico Collaborative Practice Group, an organization dedicated to helping couples divorce outside of court, resulting in greater privacy and long-term benefits for the couple and their children.  Recognizing that each couple is unique, Thomas helps her clients determine which method of pursuing a divorce and addressing child custody is best for them.

Thomas strives to help her clients with respect and understanding while offering intelligent counsel, strong advocacy, and a rational approach to achieving successful long-term outcomes for couples, parents, and their children.

Following her graduation from Tulane Law School, Thomas served as a law clerk for the Louisiana Supreme Court. She has worked with the law firms Sommer, Udall, Hardwick, Ahern & Hyatt and Sommer, Karnes & Associates, LLP.  She has also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Martha Vazquez, U.S. District Court Judge.

Thomas moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2002, and has happily called it home ever since.  Outside the office, Denise is actively involved in the community and in her sons’ school and extracurricular activities.  She is also dedicated to assisting and supporting the Santa Fe Public Schools.
